Bobbing along…
So, I went to my hairdresser’s last Friday–actually left the house at 6:45 AM for the appointment. Dear. Lord.–and asked for the proverbial Mommy Cut. Here is the picture, ripped from a magazine, I toted along–short, yes, but short with long pieces. Ahem (sorry it’s so gigantic; I’m having upload issues):

My hairdresser said I needed to do it in stages. In other words, she refused. She knew that the last time I cut my hair short was 1995, so she wants me to try things in stages. Hairdresser as therapist. What can you do?
Here is what I ended up with:
Now, my question to all of you is–do I go shorter at the next visit (at the end of September) or do I stick with what I’ve got? What say you?

I say go shorter…I love the pic that you took along, and think that it would look gorgeous with your jawline and eyes.
FWIW? This always happens to me, too. My sister owns a salon and cuts my hair, and we end up bickering over my chosen style the whole damn time. The upside? It’s FREE! LOL.
And, you look lovely with the current cut.

I vote for shorter as well. It looks good now, but I’d like to see it as in the picture. p.s. I’m so happy to read the term “hairdresser.”

Definitely shorter! It looks pretty now, but it will look edgier and more effortlessly stylish if you go shorter.
I’m amazed that your hairdresser didn’t jump up and down in glee when you asked her to cut your hair that short. Every time I’ve gone from long to super short (and I often get near a buzz cut) the hairdresser gets all excited because I’m not just asking for the eternal trim.
Spike, on the other hand, cried the last time I went short, and wouldn’t look me in the eye for nearly a day after. How is Emme Lu taking the change?

OK…I vote shorter too but I love short and my hair is that length now and I hate it BUT….what do you want to be able to do?
do you want a ponytail, be able to put it up, wear a hat? If yes, keep it that length.
If not, go short but shorter does require a little work to keep it fresh looking. I love short and I think it will look really cute. Live with this length and then decide right before.
it is fun though, I go next week to get short short again!

Shorter. The cut she ended up giving you presents a sort of “Elizabethan Tavern Wench” look. Nice if you’re going Period, but, hey, it’s the 21st Century. No more Mistress Miggins. Gotta go forward with the sleek ‘Do of the Future.

go shorter!!! You look great as usual, but have the face to carry that short of a doo. I think you will be pleased once you do it, and they are saying short is back in. I have about 2 1/2 more inches to go before I can donate my locks, and then I will be going short again….I normally keep my hair that that length, maybe a tiny bit longer, but not much.
I think you will look beautiful with it like the picture.

Holy cow, it looks great! You look younger. Nothing mommy about that, for sure. Go shorter, and if you don’t like it, you’ll be back at that length in no time…

I also vote for shorter. The current cut is nice, but it emphasizes the squareness of your jawline; I think the short do would lengthen your face and bring out your cheekbones.

Go shorter!

Jumping on the bandwagon here to say shorter, shorter, shorter. Very cute now, but will be quite spunky (and hopefully easy) if you go shorter. I look awful with short hair, so envy those who can pull it off. You’ve got the look.

Change is good (typed by a guy with a flattop over 20 years now).

I like it ‘as is’ but agree shorter would be more chic. One caveat,it looks like the hairdresser bobbed you straight around. You might want to make sure you get an angled bob (shorter in back, longer on sides, beveled snipping) like V. Webb’s in that picture.
Second caveat…I am not,nor have I ever been,a hairdresser…just a gal who has worn it all, from Farah to mowhawks,Lulu to dreads.

You know, you have such a pretty jawline and neck and shoulders that you could actually go even shorter with no problem. That said, the one problem with really short hair is that you ALWAYS have to fix it when you get up (unless you wrap your hair in papertowels and don’t move all night). No more ponytail days for you! I like the bob too just as it is.

Nice change. Love the hairdresser as therapist. My vote? Def shorter & more angled - perhaps a different “product” to get that edgier vibe??
Very gutsy move, SBird. I wouldn’t categorize it as “mommie” at all - just a Mom with Cool Hair.

Dude!! I love it. I agree with the rest of the crowd and I would go even shorter still.

Looks great, but I think shorter and more angled. I had that style for a long time and loved it that way. I’m tempted to go back to the bob since Oz seems to love to grab and pull my hair!

Are you going to miss the ponytail? If not, go shorter, I like the cuts in the picture and your current cut, but isn’t the pic what you really wanted…?

You look great!
OK, as a person who more or less has the hair in the photo (but I have sort of long bangs and look nowhere near as chic), I also vote for shorter, but agree with Barbara Noblog’s comment. Also, perhaps more of a side part, and less of the styled, uplifted look in front she gave you? It will be fun to try out different things with the new do!

Oooh! I love the new doo and I vote for going shorter next time. What fun!
